Boxer Dog Training

Helpful information about using an electric fence for dogs and other dog training resources

One of the most famous breed of dogs is the boxer. Like its name, it is known to be somewhat pugnacious and is often used as a guard dog. Its square face can make it look a little fierce, but really it can be quite playful. To turn a regular boxer into a guard dog, or indeed into a friendly pet, it needs to undergo boxer dog training.

Boxer dog training is not as strange as it sounds to the uninitiated. Like any job, to be a successful guard dog or family pet you need to learn the correct skills. And this is where boxer dog training comes in.

The boxer dog is known for its intelligence, as well as its stubbornness. For this reason, it is usual to start boxer dog training at around six weeks. Similar to human education, the younger the boxer learns the skills it needs, the more effective it will be in fulfilling its role. And the skills it learns are crucial for living in a human world – such as how to be non-aggressive to other dogs and people.

Boxer dog training teaches the dogs, which are creatures of habit, to learn positive habits and actions, so that we will enjoy their company. The two behaviors that they need to learn first are housetraining and obedience. Once a dog has learned to relieve itself outside, and not on your best carpet, it will be on its way to becoming a loved member of the family. Obedience is just as important. As dogs are either leaders or followers, you want to stay as master of the house while your dog does what you say. Your dog needs to learn to ask for food in a loving way, without biting or snarling.

Another important element of boxer dog training, and also in the education of humans as well, is training the dog with a positive attitude. A boxer will get nasty if it is not trained properly, if it is neglected, and if it does not get enough food or love. If we show the dog that sitting and looking cute is approved of, while snarling and slobbering are not, it will learn positive behavior. If you find that despite your best efforts, your boxer is not behaving in the way that it should, it’s time to change your method of boxer dog training. Perhaps the way that you are interacting with the dog is giving it a negative message.

To find out the best methods of boxer dog training, you should do plenty of research. One way is to search for books on the subject in your local public library, as there is no shortage of literature on dog training. On the other hand, you may want to try the Internet, as there are various sites online that will tell you about every aspect of boxer dog training. Whichever method you choose, however, think very carefully about what will work for you, as that is the fairest thing for you and your dog.
